HD

Would a giant HD "Godzillatron" sized scoreboard fit with the aesthetics of Michigan Stadium? It would be cool to have the largest stadium with the largest scoreboard. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_largest_scoreboards_in_NCAA_college...) Have you seen other scoreboards at other venues that would fit the Michigan Stadium look?

Hopefully we NEVER have advertising in the stadium, but what the hell else would they put on a giant screen? Retired numbers? National/Big Ten Championships? Wolverine statue on top? I'd imagine they'd keep the classic MICHIGAN STADIUM lettering on the top.

Also, what happens to the old scoreboards? They are old but they have a certain mystique to them. Maybe just leave them (fully operating) outside the stadium surrounding area?

Just something to speculate about..

I was checking both Time Warner and DirecTV for this weekend's game. TW, at least in my area of Ohio, near Columbus, is carrying the OSU game in HD. DirecTV has OSU as its primary game (in HD), but also has channels designates as BTNa, suggesting alternate coverage, and they indeed show Michigan-Delaware State, but there is no HD designation.

Does anyone know if the game is in HD on these alternate channels?

For those of you who may want to watch Michigan games online since you're at work or away - would you be willing to rent out a Slingbox for $3 a game? I'm thinking about getting a second Slingbox HD. I have my Slingbox running 24x7 for some other friends, which chews up my upstream bandwidth. I'd temporarily pause that for the Michigan game.

Found the game in raw 720p HD thanks to a friend. Will be posting  a new widescreen DVD of it, a 768x432 .mp4, and a 720p .mp4 on mgovideo.com later this weekend.

Hey guys,

Just wanted to give you a heads up as to what you can expect at MGoVideo.com this Fall with the Michigan games. We've got some really good stuff planned and it would be great to get your feedback so we can help more people enjoy our recordings.

To begin, we'll have three separate releases for all the games that are broadcast on ABC. These three releases should cover the bases of everyone's needs.

Widescreen DVD - This release will be labeled (example) "2008 Utah at Michigan WS.DVD". It will be a 720x480 resolution widescreen DVD with the highest quality video I can cram into a single disk. It will be approximately 4.4GB in size. It will be released as an .iso file which you can burn in Windows with "Infrarecorder", which is a free recording program you can find upon Googling it.

HR HDTV - This release will be a 960x544 resolution .mp4 file; "2008 Utah at Michigan HR.HDTV". This file can be played back with VLC, a free media player that works on Windows, OS X, and Linux (Google "VLC" if you are unfamiliar with it). This version will allow you to enjoy a high quality game on your computer in a relatively small download size. For a two hour recording, you can expect a 2.5GB file, which is not bad at all.

720p HDTV - For those of you who would like a pristine "full HD" copy of the game, I will upload the 720p stream (1280x720 resolution) with Dolby Surround audio; "2008 Utah at Michigan 720p.HDTV". This file can be later recorded to a Blu-Ray disk and played back on a Blu-Ray player, once this becomes a bit more economical (I've tried it, it works). For a 2.5 recording, the game is around 12GB, which is a lot. Since my upload is only 80k/sec I might need some help from someone who is familiar with Bittorrent and has good upstream bandwidth. I'll get to this a bit towards the end of my post.

To give you a preview and help you make the best choice of which version is right for you, I recorded the Euro 2008 Final yesterday and am releasing it in the three separate formats. Even if you have no interest in soccer, I encourage you to check it out so you can be more familiar with the Bittorrent download process/what version you prefer. Right now I have the "HR.HDTV" version completed, however I should have the other two finished by the end of tonight. So check this post later in the evening.

So here is where I need your help. With the 720p release, which is around 12-14GB in size per game, I'm going to need someone familiar with Bittorrent and has good upstream bandwidth. A perfect candidate would be someone with Verizion Fios who has the 20mbit/20mbit package, which I believe is $65 a month with contract (More info here: http://www.dslreports.com/shownews/50Mbps-2020Mbps-FiOS-Tiers-Hit-All-Ma...). Each week, I would Fedex you a copy of the game spread out over a couple DVD-R's. I can guide you through the upload process once we find a good candidate. If you already have Verizon Fios but are unfamiliar with Bittorrent, I would be more than willing to help you out.

In conclusion, I look forward to recording the games this Fall and sharing them with you.
