"You know how Kyle Flood still has a job? Yeah, all Jourdan."
The new Detroit Lions sponsored bowl game at Ford field (which ended the "Pizza Bowl's" reign there), finally has a name. The game, which which match the B1G against the ACC on Dec. 26th, will be known as the Quick Lane Bowl. Quick friggin' Lane Bowl.
Why not bring back the Cherry Bowl, or heck, even just the Ford Bowl would be acceptable. I guess I shouldn't complain too match about having a bowl game in Detroit against 2 major conferences, but I somehow tricked myself into thinking it wasn't going to be called something absurd. Silly me...
Bleacher Report has a really interesting article about how 2 kids who grew up playing various little league through high school sports together now have contracts worth a combined $291.5M. Apparently, Clayton Kershaw and Matthew Stafford were childhood buddies. Pretty crazy.
Before they were Matthew Stafford, starting quarterback for the Detroit Lions and first overall NFL draft pick, and Clayton Kershaw, two-time Cy Young Award winner and ace of the Los Angeles Dodgers, they were two little boys playing soccer as their moms and dads cheered and their friends played alongside.
They played on the same youth soccer, baseball, football and basketball teams together. They played freshmen football and two years of varsity baseball together and both graduated from Highland Park High School in 2006 after dominant final seasons.
Kershaw compiled a 13-0 record with an ERA of 0.77. In a five-inning mercy-rule game, he struck out all 15 batters.
Stafford led the Highland Park football team to a 15-0 record and a state championship (59-0) by throwing for 4,013 yards and 38 touchdowns.
Came across an article depicting the sad state of the Pontiac Silverdome. Some of the best memories I have in my Detroit Lions fandom happened at that larger than life (to me as a kid) venue. My first football games with my dad, and memories of Barry Sanders' unbelieveable cuts and some of the "glory years" of Lions Football (I know, 1 playoff win in forever) were made there.
The sorry state of the Silverdome today:
Guess I wasn't aware the roof collapsed speeding the already rapid deterioration of this iconic building. Maybe I'm too sentimental for a Wednesday, but I miss the Silverdome and am sad this is what it's become. It's too bad it couldn't have been turned into something useful.
Sammy Watkins, widely regarded as the best receiver in this year’s draft class, has visited Detroit, and there’s talk that the Lions are interested in trading up in the draft to acquire him.
No...just no...please God no.
EDIT: Apparently the OP was misleading. I would be ok with the Lions taking Watkins if he falls to #10. However, trading UP for him would be insane. That is the point of the OP.
Matthew Stafford recently got engaged to his longtime (HOT) girlfriend. The ring he bought her is gigantic. This impacts the salary cap as Stafford has requested to restructure for more upfront money in the form of a signing bonus in order to pay for this extravagant ring.
she might need an assistant to help her carry around her left hand from now on.
That's for sure.
Per the Detroit News (LINK), Brandon Pettigrew is expected to sign a 4 year $16M dollar deal. Signing Pettigrew was a priority going into free agency, so I'm thinking this is a good development for the Lions. Megatron, Pettigrew, Tate and Bush give Stafford a lot of good weapons.
