and... i like them? I think I like them.
Good day for a couple NFC East Wolverines. Jason Avant of the Eagles had a career day not only statistically with 133 yards receiving (no TDs but came close) but also had two key grabs; one was an amazing 3rd and long catch shown in an earlier thread, but even more importantly he hauled in a game saving 4th down catch down at the 1yd line to set up the game winning TD. The NY Giants' Stevie Brown has 2 INTs so far and on the second had quite the run back. Good to see those two guys doing well!
I didnt see it anywhere so i figured i'd let everyone know.
Stevie Brown had 1 Tak and 1 Int against the Cowboys tonight.
its good to see him make some plays
"After losing starting quarterback Colt McCoy to injury in the national title game, Mack Brown knows the importance of depth. Once again, he is "Coach February." At the end of the first of Texas' three Junior Days, Brown and his coaching staff committed 12 high school recruits. One may be the top defensive back in the state. Texas has been courting Leroy Scott from Pasadena, Texas, for over a year. Scott was invited to a Junior Day last year as a sophomore, 2009's spring Orange-White game, multiple games during the season and assistant coach Duane Akina has put a lot of time and devotion into the recruitment of the South Houston high school cornerback."
Let's hope our junior day can be this fruitful and bring in the kids that RichRod wants.
there was much talk this past season of M's assistant coaches perhaps being let go and with all the changes at ND i am hoping that RR can snakeoil corwin brown. any ideas on current position coach's status, what the schedule is for their dismissal/hiring and what role they have in recruiting?
also, is corwin a good fit or am i just too sentimental about the 1990s?
As our games this year can attest, we have been losing the time of possession battle too much, which is probably not a good thing. The first time it ever came back to bite us, though, was in the MSU game, where we simply didn't have enough drives in the first half. However, I think throughout the year the shortness of our drives can be attributed to Carlos Brown in the back field.
Brown has a unique style of running, where he usually gets 1 yard, -1 yard, 15 yards, and then 60 yards, seemingly on most drives. Though this does lead to good scoring, it also hampers our ability to give the defense a blow and lowers our time of possession.
However, we all know Minor is a bull-moose when healthy, and seemingly on every run gets 4,5, or 6 yards, with the rare 20 yard scamper. What this does is lengthen the time and number of plays on a drive, but I would venture to say that it doesn't make our offense any less potent than when Brown is in the game. So, this is all to say that with Brown out and Minor completely healthy, I think we may have a chance of a little bit more grinding on Saturday and a little bit better TOP, regardless of if we improve significantly.
I am a little confused why our corners line up 10 yards off the line of scrimage most of the time. It seems we just concede yards underneath in pass coverage. Also I saw Trent and Cissoko both get burned because they stared at the QB the whole time which allowed the reciever to get open. Is there a reason for this? I really think Cissoko will turn out to be great but I can't wait for Trent to be gone. Brown is the defensive equivalent to Sheridan. Why can't we takle?
