Yet another ND player has gotten into trouble with the law for an alcohol related offense. 

DaVaris Daniels, a sophomore-to-be receiver, was cited for consumption of alcohol by a minor on May 13, according to police records in his hometown of Vernon Hills.

Daniels was one of 29 individuals cited at an address that matches his own. Police said they were responding to a call for an ambulance when "all subjects were found to be participating in an underage party and had consumed alcohol while under the age of 21."

"I'm aware of the citation DaVaris received and will be speaking with him about the matter," Irish coach Brian Kelly said in a statement released late Wednesday. "Any team-related discipline that may be forthcoming will be handled internally."

The offense itself is relatively minor and the partygoers should be commended for calling an ambulance but the sheer amount of alcohol fueled run-ins with the law under Brian Kelly's tenure has to raise some eyebrows for a program that's so prideful of being better than everyone else. Whether it be just bad luck or something indicative of the program as a whole remains to be seen.

I'm sure that's not all of them so feel free to add anything else not on the list. I'm not sure if Tommy Ree's sister getting in trouble at the Purdue game counts or not.

Oh, and Tommy Rees plead not guilty to all the charges he was facing.

[ED:BISB - Matt James' death is not relevant here. In fact, Matt James' death is rarely relevant. Same with Declan Sullivan's death. Where they are actually relevant, they are fair game for discussion. But when they are only tangentially related, they should not be used. Rule of thumb: dead teenagers rarely help the point you are trying to make]

I want everyone's honest answer.

If I were to tell you the following would happen under Kelly before he was hired, how many of you would have actually wanted to hire him.

He would lose ten games through two seasons.

He would oversee multiple player arrests during his first two and half seasons which would range from DUI to drug possession to assaulting a police officer.

His first three recruiting classes would finish #14, #10, and #20.

Of the total allowable allotment of scholarship players to offer during his first three years of 75, he would sign only 63 players, with two of those players being specialists.

Of those 63 players, six would no longer with the team (including the best player he has signed)which would bring his player total to 57 players over three years or an average of only 19 per year. Six players below what the average allotment would be.

Of those 57 players, 31 players would be rated three stars or lower and only five players would finish ranked in the Rivals top100.

Also contained in those classes would be 11 defensive backs, with only two players rated a four star and none in the Rivals top100.

While we all knew that Tee Shepard left Notre Dame recently, we didn't know the reason. We liked to think that it was Brian Kelly's anger, maybe a dash of homesickness, or even a new found hatred for Notre Dame. In reality, Shepard is facing a potentially life-threating heart condition.

“I had known since high school that there was something with my heart, but I never knew it was anything serious,” Shepard said. “When I took my physical at Notre Dame, they saw it right away. I wasn’t sure what to do, so I dropped out and came home to figure out what to do next."

Shepard does say that he's planning to return to football though and I, for one,  wish him good luck.

Well looks like Notre Dame sees something they like in Brian Kelly, and would like him to stick around until 2016.

This seems to imply that his current contract goes until 2014, plus two more years. I wonder what their reasoning is here.
