Just to let everyone know, I will be pouring my first glass of "Ale to the Victors" tomorrow evening. The beer has been in the fermenter for almost 2 months and now it's in my kegerator and should be carbonated tomorrow. I'll be sure to post Pics and my opinion of the first batch! I can't wait!
Most important question of the day. I'm making a beer run for the weekend. That's not just a simple task as my county doesn't allow liquor sales... including beer... to the average person. Restaurants can sell by the glass, but that's it. They also have to gouge you with "membership fees" to drink at their establishment. It's horrible.
So the question, do I buy American beers for the World Cup or do I drink themed to the country we're playing in pool play? Obviously Slovenia and Algeria could be tough, especially in a beer-starved state like Texas, but I'm also open to suggestions in the comments.
Sam Adams - It's a solid American representative even if it's not the best. I'd prefer Ommegang's Three Philosophers, but that's a Belgian style of beer despite being American. I think I can at least convince myself that Sam Adams is a very American style. I refuse light beer or anything owned by those Dutch (Bud) or English (Miller).
Bass - Light enough where I can have a few over the game, but not so much that I'll be full at the half.
From what I hear, they like pale lagers. I may cheat and head 2 countries north to Pilsner Urquell. It may not be true Slovenia, but where am I going to find a Slovenian beer in this market? Unlikely.
Algeria is primarily Muslim to the point that alcohol is very limited. I'm definitely in help of something that can represent Algeria. Perhaps O'Douls due to the alcohol ban? Yeah right.
Here is a picture of "Ale to the Victors" in the secondary fermenter. This will be ready to bottle in about 2 weeks. It will be ready to drink another 2 weeks after that. I can't wait!!!
Well the first batch of "Ale to the Victors" is in the fermenter. This recipe is a cream ale which includes actual flaked maize. My thoughts are to have a cream ale and a pale ale at the UConn game this year for people to sample and decide on a winner. I'm still looking for help on designing a label, if anyone is interested. Earlier, my wife drew herself a bubble bath, poured a glass of some crappy Arbor Mist wine cooler stuff, and acted very smug as she went in to enjoy herself with candles, a bubble bath, and a glass of wine. She acted as though she had hit some kind of jackpot, and I wasn't allowed to share the winnings.
Well, I wasn't having any of that. I may not be able to fit in the tub, and I may hate that Arbor Mist crap, but what I can do, is this: I popped myself a leinie's red and climbed into a hot shower, as smugly as I could, belting out some Kenny Logins.
She told me I broke like, five different rules. I said I'm writing a new rule book, baby! What's your take?
