2010 recruiting
Mike Taylor update...of the Aww, Hamburgers Variety
I didn't see anybody pick this story up so I figured I would share. Mike Taylor was on First Take this morning talking about his decommitment from Tenn. He said he took a visit to Florida earlier in the week that made him decide to decommit and open up(go to Florida) his commitment. He said he tried to decommit even before it was announced that Kiffin was leaving for USC, but he couldn't get ahold of any of the coaches for a couple days.
So...yeah. We never really had a chance, and apparently neither did anybody else not named the Florida Gators. I know he hasn't officially committed yet to Florida, but I've got a strong gut feeling!!! he will.
Baxter Update
Per ESPN, http://insider.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?entryID=4826275&name=West_Rec... Baxter is taking trips to Oregon and Florida and will most likely decide between one of those two schools. Hopefully we can get back into his recruitment but considering how early our semester starts that might have gone against us.
Kyle Prater first of many?
Kyle Prater just said at the AAA Bowl that he has cancelled his Monday trip to USC. He was going to enroll.
This could get very interesting!
Army All-American Game
Watching the Army All American game...so far Seantrel and Prater have both been interviewed and said they are now waivering with USC. Even though Seantrel hasn't committed, he said things are "very different" with USC now. Prater was supposed to enroll early on Monday and is now flying home instead of to LA after the game. Thank you Mr. Carroll. Dillon Baxter is there, but they did not interview him yet.
Recruting Priorities
There's a nice diary entry right now about who we could sign to fill the remaining recruiting spots.
http://mgoblog.com/diaries/snake-oil-season-how-class-will-finish
So this entry will probably be somewhat redundant. But instead of focusing on specific players when we know so little information about the potential snake-oil candidates I thought I would focus on positional needs. In other words, which positions do you think we most need to fill with any remaining scholarships? The best way to think of it is like this: If we could sign one 5* recruit, which position would you hope he played?
My priority list would be as follows:
1. MLB - We are still desperate at this spot.
2. DE - We have bodies, but could use a stud.
3. OL - We don't need for next year, but a star is needed for the future.
4. S - Definite need, but we have three guys already in this class
Any other positions are less critical since we have stars or depth at them (Gardner, Christian, Miller, etc.).
5. NT/DT
6. TE
7. OLB
8. RB
9. WR
10. CB
11. QB
8.
Impact on Florida Recruits?
What impact does Urban Meyer's resignation have on recruits? Is the University of Florida brand stronger than the Urban Meyer name?
