“He was on the other side of the court, screaming: ‘Good shot, Kev!’” Durant said, shaking his head in delight. “I’m thinking, this guy’s an All-American type of teammate right there.”
So, last night, I was watching an Illinois hs state semifinal- #1 Hales Franciscan from Chicago (Has 4 or 5 D-1 players) vs. #8 Robinson from downstate. Robinson has Rivals #6 center and #39 prospect, this kid named Meyers Leonard, who's a 7 footer who is headed to Illinois next year. They kept discussing how he'd had this great dunk in the quarterfinal round against St. Theresa's. I looked it up. . . it's quite the teabagging of the poor kid in his way. For your reference, the kid he dunks on had been harassing him all game and getting in his head. . . and was only 6'1. It's quite the posterization.
After watching this kid last night- Leonard- I think he's going to be a pretty decent player for the Illini. Already shoots around 82% from the line, and looks like he'll easily get up to 250 (weighs 225-230 now). Also a good passer. The one thing I did notice, though, is that he seems a bit immature and kind of like. . .the kind of player that opposing teams hate for his demeanor. Also seemed a tad prima donna from what I've read and from watching an interview with him after the game. Get ready to be annoyed by this kid for the next few years. Oh, and his team, Robinson, pulled off a major upset and beat Hales; they play for the state championship tonight. Game story from last night is here, for anyone who cares- http://www.herald-review.com/sports/high-school/article_6cb06a72-2e6a-11...
I realize this is a bit off-topic. . . I live in Illinois and played H.S. basketball and football in Illinois, so that's why all the backstory. I guess, basically, it's just "sweet teabag, kid will play at Illinois; we'll hate him probably."
Although collegefootballnews.com is affiliated with scout.com, they still put out their own class rankings. Michigan comes in at #9(!) overall with the highest ranking of any Big Ten team. Just thought I'd share.
So let's assume things don't go that well on on our remaining targets tomorrow. In this scenario Parker goes to SC or Washington, Knight is already at Rutgers, Dorsey commits to FSU and Talbott decomits and goes to NC. In that scenario, beyond the obvious disappointment, do you still like this class?
I'll start. Although disappointed, I would still believe we helped ourselves with this class. And beyond that, while a potential #20 Rivals ranking is not what we are used to, given 3-9 and 5-7 I think our recruiting this year is really about the best that can be hoped for. Given two years of bad on-field results, very poor press coverage of M, negative recruiting against RR and the program, and a pending NCAA ruling that is sure to be overblown by opposing coaches and the media, I would give the staff, purely on recruiting, an A-.
Have we offered Earnest Thomas III and did he ever visit in the last few weeks? He included us in his top 5 yesterday (http://insider.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?entryID=4859069&name=Midwest_...) and I haven't seen anyone mention him in a few weeks.
Are we still in the running for him and if so do we even want him?
According to Rivals the Talbott brothers are visiting in SEC country this weekend. I know they were supposedly going to visit Wisconsin for the Wisky/M game. Maybe there are going to be more spots opening up? Parker. Dorsey, Black, and Knight we'd love to welcome you to A2.
Steve Mehrer, who probably wasn't going to get a scholarship offer (not right away at least) and everyone's favorite greyshirt candidate, committed to Kent State.
Don't think this is a big deal, just wanted everyone to know.
